Shorewood
Addition (Underway September, 2007)
An upstairs
conversion project. This great Shorewood home had a fantastic
downstairs, but upstairs the layout was not well thought-out (and was
clearly a set for the Brady Bunch shows). Pragmatic gathered
requirements, then proposed a new floor plan and we were rolling.
The homeowner contributed significant demolition labor on
this project, which helped to keep costs down.
Technologies to be
implemented:
-Refinishing hardwood floors
-Addition of reclaimed hardwood floors to match
-Addition of cellulose insulation to uninsulated cavities
-Reclaiming original doors (found in attic!)
-Low-flow fixtures, dual flush toilet
-PEX plumbing
-Non-VOC paints and finishes
-Full jobsite recycling

captured on film.)

Existing bath
Time to start taking apart the existing bath. Opening the
wall reveals...NO insulation. That will be remedied as we go.
New plumbing installed, tub in place, tiling begins.
Hall wall demolition complete, new layout framing goes in.
We were able to patch/save most of the plastered walls after the
Brady-board paneling is taken down.
New drywalled areas complete, new hardwoods put in place to match
existing, all sanded. The joists run in several directions
under this floor, interesting.
We rip some pieces to match the existing casing. Next step is
to pull the hollow-core doors and get the awesome originals down from
the attic and start figuring out which go where.
