Kane Commons

Pragmatic Construction is providing Green consulting services for the development of Julilly Kohler's Kane Commons project. Kane Commons is a $5 million Green development overlooking the Milwaukee River on the city's east side. The Commons will be a 13- unit complex, with new construction and use of existing building. The Commons will be designed by architect Russell LaFrombois III.

Green technologies will include Green roofing, geothermal heating/cooling, Brownfield remediation and rainwater catchment systems. Check back for additional updates on technologies to be implemented and project images.

For more information, check the website or read a Business Journal of Milwaukee story on Kane Commons here.

NEW!  Pragmatic has been selected to build one of the homes in the Kane Commons project.  We are very excited to execute one of Russel's designs- extremely green blends of traditional facade with modern floor plans and materials.    Construction will begin this winter.

Check back soon for information on Green systems to be employed in the home.

Some views of the site- Bierman Construction Corporation has already begun building several of the homes on the commons.  The home we will be constructing will go right behind the fence pictured.  This will be the tightest lot we have ever worked on- no room at all for storage of building materials.

One of the homes under construction.  We will start our build when the homes to the back are well underway.

Finally we get a break in the weather and can begin excavation.

Waterproofing and protective layer added.   Drain tile also laid for additional
assistance in moving water.  This home is not allowed to have a sump pump
due to light contamination of existing soil.  We do all we can to make it hard
for water to remain around the foundation.

Planning the backfill.

Backfilled and compacted.

Next we start off-site construction prep as we have little on-site room to work.
Here we build the six flitch beams required for the home.   Heavy!

Jeremy Werner of JW and Sons (Racine) starts to frame up the home.

Storm connections made.
