COMPLETE
In the summer of 2008 Pragmatic Construction deconstructed a home in Port Washington, WI Deconstruction, also known as Un-Building, very different from demolition. ONE ![]() TWO ![]() THREE! ![]() THE PHOTONARRATIVE: First the soft-stripping, all fixtures and furniture left in the home are carefully removed and stored for donation. Next comes removal of any good woodworks. ![]() This house was loaded with great cedar, all in perfect shape and harvestable. Gerald works if free. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Carpet pulled up. ![]() ![]() Steven holds up some carpet slated to become paver fibers for a boardwalk project we have coming up. Drywall is removed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cleanup as we go, the Leatherman keeps the site safe and sane. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Time to address the insulation. First the cellulose... ![]() ![]() Then the formaldi-batt ![]() ...and more cellulose ![]() Some careful removal of more cedar. ![]() ![]() ...and more cellulose ![]() ![]() ![]() Art shot. ![]() Moving to the roof- tearing off shingles for recycle into asphaltic cement ![]() ![]() Shingles ![]() Each year the US tears-off and landfills enough shingles to fill a football stadium area 18 miles high. In 5 years that hits the moon. ![]() ![]() ![]() Roofing commando. ![]() ![]() We try to do the garage last for storage and weather-proof workspace. ![]() Shingles scraped, time to harvest the underlayment. ![]() ![]() Stuck! ![]() Here comes one of our non-profit partners for this job to collect materials for reuse. ![]() ![]() ![]() Time for the big beams and the interior framing to come down. ![]() ![]() Lunch time ![]() Cellulose insulation, bagged for reuse. ![]() ![]() This portion of the roof structure off, time for the 2nd floor joists. ![]() ![]() ![]() Emmanuel sawzalls where necessary, trying to preserve maximum lengths of boards. ![]() Plywood harvested. ![]() Old styrofoam sent to SIP company in Plymouth, WI to be recycled into panels. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Starting to stack and denail for transport as the crew takes the last of the home down. ![]() ![]() ![]() Big heavy cast tubs are not terribly fun. ![]() Materials staging. ![]() Lannon stone harvested. ![]() ![]() Last big beams carefully removed. ![]() Pretty much just a big chimney left. ![]() ![]() Last of the framing. ![]() Remove the deck, last donation pickups, clean the site and we are gone. |
